Lee’s Stratford Hall and the birthplaces of James Monroe and George Washington. The now 70 acre private estate was built in 1850 after the original home built in 1729 burned. Nomini Hall has been kept in the famous “Carter” family for generations passed down. Nomini Hall was an original land grant awarded in 1729 to the famous Carter family, the largest land owners in the colony. The original Nomini Hallwas an elegant square brick Georgian-style home built in 1729. The house was 3 stories high on 2,000 acres with a view of the Potomac River and the Nomini Creek dock. Robert III planted an allee of yellow poplar trees from the house to the road in the 1750s which are now considered the oldest in Virginia. The originial house tragically burned to the ground, a frame structure was rebuilt on the spot in 1850.
The property has its own duck blind on the creek, kennel, fish cleaning tables, and walkway to the water. There is a small boat access ramp located at the creek as well. Nomini Hall rests on the headwaters of Nomini Creek with the Potomac River, Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay nearby. The close waterways and wooded land that make up the beautiful Northern Neck of Virginia make hunting and fishing excursions popular activities.

If you are looking for a fishing adventure, Coles Point is the closest marina available for docking boats and hiring fishing charters. Montross, Warsaw, Kinsale and Colonial Beach on the Potomac River, and Tappahannock on the Rappahannock River are the closest towns, all with local museums and antique shops to find your next treasure. For the history buffs, George Washington’s, James Monroe’s and Robert E. Lee’s birthplaces are in the county and open to the public.
